I remember reading this book a few years ago, on a Christmas holiday, and it felt like a delightful synchronicity, offering me an unexpected and precious gift. It transformed the way I perceived the process of goal setting within a company. After over 20 years of experimenting with different kinds of goal-setting approaches: top-down, bottom-up, you name it, all with little to no energy created among teams, it finally changed. I didn’t see it anymore as a routine task, but rather as a strategic imperative that sparked my enthusiasm. Subsequently, that proved to be valid for individuals and teams I worked with while applying the methodology.

The book goes beyond traditional management practices by advocating for the use of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) as a powerful tool for focus, alignment, and tracking progress. One of the key novelties of "Measure What Matters" is its advocacy for transparent goal-setting across teams that encourages cross-functional collaboration and adaptability. Moreover, I greatly appreciated the case studies presented from companies like Intel, Google, and Intuit, which showcase how the implementation of OKRs has led to remarkable transformations, by focusing on and measuring what truly matters.
