The Meaning Revolution

I imagine most of us encounter mornings when, before going to work, we ask ourselves, not with the highest level of energy and motivation, “Why do I do this?”. I found this book meaningful because it encourages looking for the answer outside oneself. Transcendent means to be able to connect to something bigger than ourselves, in the team, the organization or the society. As a leader, once I embark on this path, the question becomes then how do I get skilled in inspiring others to pursue this connection.

I worked in teams and with teams that were connected to a higher purpose and in teams and with teams that were not. The difference is significant in terms of results, energy and quality of life. The main challenge to bridge the gap is how to outgrow the need to be driven by our ego, how to move from the inclination that others should serve our interests to the one in which we serve others. The options are not mutually exclusive, but the one we value more will drive our actions and reactions. Strangely enough, I found out that the more I choose to serve others, the more I receive myself.
