Bruckner: Symphony No. 8 - DVD

Born in Ansfelden in 1824, Anton Brucker played no significant role in the musical life of his time. His music did not match the popular tastes of artists and audiences. The composer was very aware of what he did and did not want. He composed this eighth symphony, his third in C Minor, between 1884 and 1885 and finished a first revision of the work in 1887. However, Hermann Levi, to whom he sent the work, did not accept this version. After his initial disappointment, Brucker became more and more inspired by the task at hand: He composed a new version over the next three years - one that was much more complex and had a richer structure and instrumentation.

Anton Bruckner's eighth symphony is the pinnacle of his creative oeuvre. On this DVD, the Israeli Philharmic Orchestra plays the work conducted by Zubin Mehta.
