One of the difficulties we run into when working in teams stems from the fact that in high-schools there are plenty of clubs and tournaments for debate and none for dialogue. While debate postulates that one side has to win and the other to lose, dialogue requires a different kind of mindset and approach. We need both skilled debate and dialogue for healthy interactions and results. This book helps the ones looking for more clarity on dialogic principles and practicalities.
For many of the students I worked with at The Entrepreneurship Academy in Bucharest, the Dialogue course came as one of the most memorable and impactful from the four-year curriculum. This book outlines, through insightful storytelling, how one can influence the outcome of a meeting using the pillars of listening, voicing, respecting and reflecting to transform a sterile sequence of monologues into a fruitful dialogue. Counterintuitively maybe, the road to building better dialogues with others starts with changing the dialogue with oneself.
